Learn Thai Massage in a supportive, relaxed and playful environment. In this hands-on class, participants will learn the body mechanics and techniques necessary to give a relaxed and flowing Thai Massage. Traditional Thai Massage, called Nuad Boran in the Thai language, is also known in the West as Thai Yoga Bodywork. It uses the techniques of leaning pressure, compression along energy lines, joint mobilization and traction, as well as passive yoga-like stretches to increase flexibility and joint range of motion, reduce muscle tension and pain, calm the nervous system and deepen an overall sense of well-being.

Thai massage is done on a mat on the floor. It is helpful that participants have good body awareness and are comfortable moving at times on their knees. The class is open to massage therapists, yoga teachers and students, as well as to anyone with a desire to care for others using the therapeutic techniques of Thai Massage. Massage Therapists will receive 30 CE’s towards their continuing education requirements.

Overview

This 30 class will take place over three weekends. The first 2 weekends will be 14 hours each, 7 hours Saturday, 7 hours Sunday, including an hour for lunches. An additional 2 hours will be scheduled on the final day, Sunday, November 12th, for each student to demonstrate a full 90 minute Thai Massage session.

Students will learn 2 routines, the second one a little longer and built upon the previous sequence. After completion, participants will be able to give a 1 to 1½ hour Thai Massage. Most of the time will be spent doing hands-on practice. But the class will include discussions on history, theory, anatomy, benefits and contraindications, body mechanics, alignment, leverage and moving from the center, energy and sen lines, breathing and self-care. Each student will receive an instruction manual, a DVD of both routines and a certificate of completion.

Following is a brief class outline…

First Weekend – 15 Hours

Learn a 45 minute to 1 hour Thai Massage routine. Included is a manual and DVD of the routine. Discussion on history and theory, benefits and contra-indications, breathing, self-care, body mechanics, alignment, leverage and moving from the center.

Second Weekend – 15 Hours

Build on the previous routine, adding additional moves to the sequence, increasing the routine to 1 to 1 1/2 hours in length. Included is a second manual and DVD of the expanded routine. Discussion on anatomy, energy and sen lines.

Final Weekend – 2 Hours

Review, practice time and Q & A. Students demonstrate a full 1 to 1 1/2 hour routine and receive certificates.

Reiki Level I Class, October 23rd, 2016

Reiki

Reiki Level I Class with Pati Starzynski, LMT

“Rei” is the universal boundless aspect of energy. “Ki” is the life force energy that is in us and around us. “Reiki” is the spiritually guided life force energy that brings the body, mind, and spirit into harmony and balance. Reiki is a healing art as well as an avenue for personal growth. A Reiki treatment promotes relaxation, reduces stress and pain, and creates an overall sense of well being. There are 3 levels of Reiki training and a Master-Teacher level.

Reiki Level I class consists of history, theory, introduction to the energy and chakra systems, the application of Reiki in daily life, how to give self-treatment and how to give a treatment to others. Students learn technuques to enhance the flow of their energy. A guided meditation prepares the student for receiving the Reiki I attunement. The attunement opens the crown, heart and hand chakras to the spiritually guided life force energy, allowing the student to become a facilitator for channeling Reiki healing energy. This starts a 21 day cleansing cycle of the 7 major chakras. Ample time is allotted for students to practice giving and receiving Reiki treatments. Students receive the book, Reiki the Healing Touch by William Rand and a Reiki I certificate of completion.

Pati, a graduate of the Healing Arts Center in St. Louis, MO and the Ashland Institute of Massage in Ashland, OR, has been a massage therapist and yoga instructor since 1994. Her spiritual and personal growth took a quantum leap following her Reiki Level I attunement and a ruptured appendix in 1995. She became a Reiki Master/Teacher in 1996. Today, Pati practices Reiki, knowing that teaching and healing one another is an expression of the highest spiritual principle……loving unconditionally.

Yin yoga is a quiet, gentle practice addressing the deep connective tissues and enhancing the flow of energy through meridians and organs. All of the postures are practiced on the floor and are held for 1 to 5 minutes, allowing the body to release tension in a safe and relaxed way.

Postures are held while keeping your muscles relaxed, mind focused, listening to your body and honoring its wisdom. The postures in Yin yoga are designed to help you to reach a profound awareness in the body, breath and mind.

This gentle, meditative practice focuses on self-discovery and the pure joy of being in the present moment, bringing calm, ease and peaceful harmony to your physical, energetic and emotional self.

This class is suitable for all levels of yoga students.
